ReSTOR ® Multifocal IOL

Vision with ReSTOR

ReSTOR® intraocular lens implants (IOL) are specifically designed to restore BOTH distance and near vision. These IOLs are designed as an option for cataract surgery lens replacement, as well as for individuals who have lost their ability to see things up close.

When people get into their early forties presbyopia develops, ReSTOR® IOLs are designed to provide a person with the ability to see objects at distance, mid and near vision ranges. The ReSTOR® IOL was designed to provide quality near to distance vision by combining the strengths of apodized diffractive and refractive technologies. Similar technology has been used for years in microscopes and telescopes to improve image quality, and now has been patented for use in intraocular lenses by Alcon.

Previously, IOLs used in cataract procedures provided good functional distance vision, but offered little benefit for a full range of vision. That meant that people with those IOLs would still need reading glasses from time to time. The ReSTOR® IOL is designed to improve vision at all distances. With the ReSTOR® IOL, many people can read, drive and do other tasks without glasses.

In the US clinical trials more than 80% of patients who had placement of the ReSTOR lens reported never wearing glasses after the surgery. 94% were able to read the newspaper and drive without glasses.

Patients that are nearsighted or farsighted or those with good distance vision will have the ability to see again at near with a ReSTOR® IOL surgery. ReSTOR® implants offer patients the option of correcting both distance and near vision problems with one procedure.
