During your eye examination your eyes will evaluated using a series of advanced diagnostic tests to determine if you have cataracts and if so, how much the cataracts have developed.
Contrast Sensitivity: This test determines how much at cataract has decreased image contrast in various light conditions. For example, how much glare decrease ones vision at night or during the day.
Visual Acuity: This test measures the quality of your vision at different distances. You will be asked to read letters of various sizes from a chart. Each eye is tested indivually as well as both eyes together to measure the accuracy of your eyesight.
Pupil Dilation: The pupil is enlarged with eye drops so that your ophthalmologist can further examine your lens and retina. Pupil dilation is important to determine if there are any other conditions which limit your vision besides cataracts.
Slit Lamp Exam: This is a special type of microsope which magnifies your eye so your doctor can examine the lens and determine the severity of “clouding” from the cararact.
